Chef Josh Cain
Chef Josh Cain, a native of Columbia, SC, developed a passion for the culinary arts after an arm injury sidelined his baseball career resulting in him moving to Folly Beach and working at RJ’s Seashell.
“I was just a kid trying to make enough to not have to move back home to mom and dad’s house. My roommate at the time was in culinary school and working with me so I just read a lot of his text books and we would both mess around with ingredients and recipes, it kind of just clicked.”
Eight months after starting as a fry cook, Josh had worked his way up to Sous Chef eventually earning a spot at Hank Holliday’s namesake Hank”s Seafood Restaurant, where he learned about the delicacy and finesse of working with all the amazing seafood Charleston’s waters offer all year round.
Soon after, Josh moved to Raliegh, NC, where he worked at the award-winning Magnolia Grill. He worked they for a year until the charms of Charleston called him home, landing him at date night favorite Fulton Five, where he eventually became the executive chef from 2010-2016.
After taking a brief hiatus from the kitchen, Josh is very excited to be at Amen Street Fish and Raw Bar where he can help bring the freshest seafood prepared with care and creativity to both familiar faces and those new to the Charleston food scene alike.
