About us

Welcome to Amen Street, a cherished dining destination set in the heart of Charleston's historic district, at 205 East Bay Street. Our location is a gateway to Charleston's storied past, just steps away from the historic Market and the scenic Charleston Harbor.

Originally known as Wragg's Alley, the area was renamed Amen Street in 1788, a nod to the echoes of hymns from nearby churches. This charming name sadly faded into history by 1839, but it lives on through our restaurant, celebrated for revitalizing this vibrant part of the city.

The building's history dates back to 1851, with its iconic cast iron storefront, which survived the great earthquake of 1886. In 2009, we opened our doors, reviving the "Amen" legacy with a blend of tradition and modernity.

At Amen Street, we delight in serving fresh, locally sourced, and sustainable seafood. Our talented chefs create a seasonally inspired menu, showcasing the best of Charleston's local fishing industry, with highlights like an extensive raw bar featuring oysters, clams, and shrimp ceviche.

More than just a place to savor exceptional seafood, Amen Street is a cornerstone of community, southern hospitality, and enduring tradition.

Join us for an unforgettable dining experience where history and culinary excellence come together beautifully.
