Happy Hour, starter before dinner or late night snack…it’s always a good time to enjoy the best appetizers at Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar in downtown Charleston! While we can easily attest that every starter at Amen Street is amazing, we’ve polled our Facebook fans to see what they think are the top three “must haves” at Amen Street. Crispy Jumbo Calamari
This starter is so popular, it is probably time for us to call it “The Famous Crispy Jumbo Calamari”! So, why is this dish in such high demand? Chef Stephen Ollard uses squid steaks (not tubes or tentacles) which are the most tender and flavorful part of the squid. He prepares the steaks by quickly frying them and then tossing them with fresh tomatoes, bacon, sweet corn, scallions and a lemon aioli. Delicious.
A great starter or even the perfect lunchtime meal, our Shrimp Corndogs have been a beloved menu favorite for quite some time. One taste and it will be easy to see why! Our Shrimp Corndogs are served with Carolina mustard, lemon pepper ketchup and Napa Slaw.
Oysters (Raw & Baked)
Our fresh oysters are so good that it was hard for our guests to choose between raw and baked as their favorite! We have an extensive selection of the freshest local oysters that are brought in daily to our restaurant and masterfully shucked at our exhibition raw bar.
A relatively new item added to our menu that has been an instant favorite is our Baked Oysters. This starter features fresh shucked local oysters topped with a mousse of house cured Tasso ham, spinach and parmesan cheese all baked to gooey perfection.
