Local Oysters are Back

Fall Means Even More Oysters at Amen Street

We’re on the verge of spectacular Autumn weather here in the Lowcountry, and if you’re a true seafood enthusiast you know that there’s nothing better than cool weather to enjoy fresh, salty oysters on the half shell. At Amen Street, we serve a huge selection of the freshest oyster varieties from all over the East Coast year round, but when cooler weather hits the Holy City it means that our favorite local varieties are back in season.

Look for the return of two favorites, Ace Blades and Charleston Salts, from local purveyor, St. Jude Farms. Both varieties are grown in the Ace Basin, with long, thin, Ace Blades growing wild on the banks of creeks and rivers, and cup shaped Charleston Salts cultivated in floating cages in the nutrient-rich upper half of the water. Both have the signature rich and briny taste characteristic of Lowcountry oysters. Beginning October 1st, Ace Blades will be our House Oyster variety, which means at Happy Hour, you’ll be able to try a dozen for just $9.95 and a half dozen for only $6.95!

Throughout the coming months, we’ll also feature rotating oyster specials that include local varieties like Charleston Salts, Carolina Cups from Charleston Oyster & Shrimp Co., Bluffton Wilds, from Bluffton Oyster Co., and the ever-popular Single Lady oysters from Lady’s Island, SC. Stop by and ask our Raw Bar experts about each variety while you enjoy a glass or two of our premium VinTap wine selections with a dozen on the half shell!

This year’s Shrimp & Grits Festival has come and gone, and we’re honored to have been named 1st Runner Up! We make our Shrimp & Grits using house-smoked tasso ham, a fresh roasted tomato gravy, and locally sourced Geechie Boy grits! You’ll find the delectable dish on both our Lunch and Dinner menus (it’s just that popular!). Stop by Amen Street this week and try our award-winning version of this quintessentially southern staple.
