Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Have you made plans yet? We hope you’ll join us at Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar to enjoy fresh local oysters and your favorite drink with your sweetheart. We’ve updated our Raw Bar, adding a glass cover to the marble counter so we can showcase all of the deliciously fresh local seafood we get from farms all around Charleston, and we’re serving up fresh local and specialty oysters for lunch and dinner on Valentine’s Day.

Oysters are a known aphrodisiac, and therefore, a traditional Valentine’s favorite among wooers and the soon-to-be-wooed. We’re serving two varieties from St. Jude Farms that we know you’ll fall head over heels for as soon as you give them a try. Ace Blades, our house oysters, get their name because of their long, blade-like shape. They’re a wild-caught variety that grows on the banks of creeks and rivers in the Lowcountry’s ACE Basin, and can be distinguished from other varieties because of their savory and briny taste. Charleston Salts grow in cages suspended in the more shallow, nutrient-rich waters of the ACE Basin. This causes them to develop a distinct cupped shell that makes a beautiful presentation when we serve them on the half-shell. Pull up a seat at the raw bar, enjoy the brand new seafood display, and ask one of our experts to walk you through the subtle taste differences between these two varieties, as well as our other local favorites like Single Ladies and Tatemageushe oysters.

So, you’ve already impressed your date with a mouth-watering array of local oyster goodness, but you need a follow-up move? Wow your lucky companion with your knowledge of the local brews we have on tap at Amen Street. The seasonal draft from Holy City Brewing, the Pluff Mudd Porter, is a must-try because of its subtle chocolate notes and silky finish.  If you or your date prefer a lighter, citrusy ale with ginger notes, you’ll want to try White Thai from Westbrook Brewing Company on Daniel Island. It goes very well with any seafood dish, but pairs especially well with oysters!  For a darker ale with notes of caramel and coffee, order a pint of Rye Not from COAST Brewing. Now you’re ready for your perfect Valentine’s Day date at Amen Street! The only thing left to do is make your reservation.

We’re so proud to have been nominated in the category of Best Raw Bar in the Charleston City Paper’s Best of Charleston 2015 contest. Vote for us here, thank you in advance for your support. The polls are open until February 17th. Let’s see if we can nab the #1 spot!
